NIH Public Access Policy & PMCID Requirements
The NIH Public Access Policy requires that all peer-reviewed journal articles arising from NIH funding be submitted to PubMed Central (PMC) and assigned a PubMed Central reference number (PMCID) within 12 months of publication.
Please note: On July 1, 2025 updated the Public Access Policy to include:
2024 NIH Public Access Policy requires Author Accepted Manuscripts accepted for publication in a journal, on or after July 1, 2025, to be submitted to PubMed Central upon acceptance for publication, for public availability without embargo upon the Official Date of Publication.
If INBRE equipment, funding, or personnel were used to generate data, the investigator must ensure submission to the NIH Manuscript Submission (NIHMS) system to obtain a PMCID (different from a PMID).
Please contact Jynene Black (jablack@alaska.edu) for assistance with submission or compliance questions.
⚠️Failure to obtain a PMCID number for publications may delay continued NIH funding for the entire INBRE grant.
For detailed instructions on compliance, visit the NIH Public Access Policy website.
