Publication Support Request

Alaska INBRE offers limited support for faculty, postdocs, undergraduate students, and partner institution researchers seeking assistance with publication costs. This mechanism is designed to expand visibility and impact of biomedical and One Health research across Alaska. These opportunities are offered on a limited and infrequent basis.

Purpose

The goal of this mechanism is to reduce barriers to publishing high-quality research aligned with Alaska INBRE’s mission. Eligible applicants can request funds to cover page charges for peer-reviewed journal articles or book chapters.

Eligibility

Applicants must be affiliated with one of Alaska INBRE’s six partner institutions, (UAA, UAF, UAS, Ilisagvik College, ANTHC or SCF) at the time of submission. Applicants who have received prior INBRE awards recipients must be up to date on required INBRE reports. If the publication is based on INBRE-funded work, proper citation of the INBRE grant is required.

Requests must be submitted after a publication has been accepted. INBRE does not fund submissions to predatory journals, open access-only fees, or color figure charges unless online versions are free.

What’s Funded

Applicants may request funds needed to publish a single peer-reviewed manuscript or book chapter. Cost-sharing from departments or other sources is encouraged. Most awards support page charges directly tied to research funded by INBRE and advancing One Health topics. Funding is not guaranteed and is based on merit, alignment with INBRE goals, and availability of funds.

Application Requirements

Applications must be submitted via the online portal. Required information includes:

  • Name of journal and brief abstract
  • Confirmation that INBRE is cited (if applicable)
  • Description of how the publication supports INBRE’s One Health theme
  • Use of INBRE Core Resources
  • Description of any INBRE-supported activities contributing to the publication
  • Verification of publication acceptance and payment timeline

Award Review & Administration

Applications are reviewed by the Administrative Core Leadership Team. Priority is given to publications with strong scientific impact, clear INBRE relevance, and alignment with One Health themes. If approved, funds will be routed through the applicant’s home institution.

Research funded by INBRE to produce a manuscript must comply with NIH’s Public Access Policy, including submission to PubMed Central and use of PMCID references in NIH communications.
