Carryover Request Funding

This one-time award mechanism supports biomedical-related expenses that strengthen research infrastructure and capacity within Alaska INBRE’s network. The Carryover Request mechanism is designed to fund short-term, non-recurring needs such as equipment purchases, small-scale research support, or hosting a scientific seminar. These opportunities are offered on a limited and infrequent basis.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants must be affiliated with one of Alaska INBRE’s six partner institutions, (UAA, UAF, UAS, Ilisagvik College, ANTHC or SCF) at the time of award and have submitted required reporting for any previous INBRE-supported activity.

Funding Details

Applicants may request up to $100,000 in direct costs. Examples of allowable costs include research equipment, supplies, services, or one-time professional events. All funds must be used within the defined period. This mechanism does not support stipends, honoraria, scholarships, or foreign components.

Application Process

To apply, submit a single PDF containing a two-page concept paper, NIH-formatted biosketch, budget justification, and a brief summary of prior INBRE-funded work to ua-akinbre@alaska.edu.

Review and Selection

Applications are reviewed by the Alaska INBRE Administrative Core Leadership based on alignment with INBRE goals, student training potential, and overall impact on the research environment. Selected applications are forwarded to NIH for final approval. Funds are limited and awarded based on merit and distribution of funds across the INBRE network.

Award Conditions

Recipients are expected to follow NIH and institutional policies and expend funds by the deadline. A final report will be required for inclusion in the annual NIH progress report. Funds can only be used for the specified request that NIH has approved.
